WP7: Genomics: natural genetic variation, genomes & application

WP7 has objectives:

  • develop genome-wide genetic markers for field monitoring, for estimating and tracking variation mass-reared biocontrol agent strains, and for use in Genome-based-Selection (GS)
  • unravel the genes that functionally underpin the phenotypic variation in the relevant biocontrol agent traits.

Research projects

  • RP1 Population genomics of natural enemies
This project will use next-generation sequencing technology to quantify the genetic variation and genomic regions under selection in natural as well...
  • RP5 Genomic basis of life history traits and reproductive potential
This project aims at identifying the genes underlying life-history traits important to biocontrol in the model parasitoid Nasonia vitripennis. In...
  • RP9 Identification and characterization of naturally occurring variation affecting reproductive diapause
This project will identify the genes and their molecular function(s) for diapause on a population scale in wild fruit fly populations. Expected...
  • RP13 Genome-based selection for the improvement of natural enemies in biocontrol
This project will seek proof-of-principle for the use of Genome-based-Selection (GS) for key life history and natural enemy traits in the model...
